It was at the height of an American depression that a therapist posed the question to Brandon Smith, an expert in the design and development of tech-centric, specialized interior environments:  "Could you imagine yourself being something else?"

Recognizing a disjoint between the consumer’s perception of luxury and the methods in which it was being sold to them, it was from this question that DCoopMedia was born. Could luxury be something else? Just what is luxury?

Luxury Is What Luxury Isn’t

DCoopMedia is a boutique publisher of media outlets, syndicated content, and private label publications, that inspire heightened connections between designers of the luxury lifestyle and the consumers for whom they ultimately serve. We blend the act of discovery, the art of romance, the celebration of heritage, the power of design, and the importance of the basics, to encourage readers to find added value and elevated comfort beyond necessity, price-tag, and namesake.
DCoopMedia is founded on the premise that Luxury is subjective, that it means something different to everyone. We understand that there exists a commonality among the unique perspectives of every consumer of Luxury. Luxury is not a product.

Brandon A. Smith-Stephens
Founder & Creative Director

An interior designer with over 14 years experience in the design of contract and industrial facilities, Brandon's extensive experience in facilities space planning, project development, and sustainable technology solutions let to his being sought out nationwide as an industry expert in the development of critical facilities, classified information spaces, data centers and other complex tech-centric interiors projects.  Among his former former clients are defense contractor SAIC, the United States Navy, Wells Fargo, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation, and Accredited Home Lenders as well as a number of recognized property investment, management, and real estate groups.

Never one to turn down a challenge, Brandon's career expanded beyond the boundaries of interior design -  a funeral home, a university cadaver processing facility, a water filtration plant, and countless parking lots a part of his extensive portfolio of completed projects.  Of particular note is his BendBroadband Vault, a LEED Gold Tier III Critical Facility.  It is currently one of only 50 LEED certified data centers in the world and the only facility to also be designated with the Tier III status.  A devotion to research, an eye for aesthetic sustainability, and an attention to detail have garnered numerous awards for the Bend, Oregon facility.

Recognizing an opportunity to change how the typical consumer perceives luxury, Brandon launched DCoopMedia, LLC, a San Diego-based content agency, in 2013.  His goal, to develop original content designed to stimulate the design communities, provide unique opportunities for brand awareness, and to cross-pollinate disconnected consumer marketplaces while simultaneously redefining the basic meaning of luxury. Among DCoopMedia's digital successes are the regularly trending chat #DesignLUX, a weekly staple that has reached over 13 million unique Twitter users and has generated over 300 million impressions during it's three year tenure. The continued success of #DesignLUX also saw the launch of No.26 (formerly theTwentySIX), a bimonthly luxury design journal, currently followed by 54,000 readers world-wide with strong followings in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Middle East.

Channeling an addiction for discovery and a passion for research, Brandon's popular outlets have become the soapboxes on which to tell the stories that make each artist, designer, innovator, and crafts person unique. Every brand has a story to tell.  And every artist is a brand.  Finding purpose as a storyteller, Brandon expanded DCoopMedia's publishing efforts to include the design and publication of Lookbooks and Portfolios as well as scalable Identity Development Strategies. Keeping in mind the unique requirements of the entrepreneur, his enhanced offerings are designed to bring those essential marketing tools once reserved only for those with big budgets into the hands of small-scale designers, artists, and craftspeople.

His original written content has been featured in both local and national publications including Traditional Home,, Remodeling Magazine, and New England Home Magazine as well as broadcasted from the digital outlets of Jaguar USA, the Four Seasons, Miele, Wood-Mode Fine Custom Cabinetry, and Blanton's Bourbon. His photography, now totaling 60,000 images, continue to be included in print and digital publications, well-known blogs, brand identity strategies, and outreach campaigns.

With a dedication to producing quality, meaningful content, Brandon is a Brizo Blogger 19 and BlogTour alum, a supporting member of Be Original Americas, and has been nominated for numerous media awards including the JDR Industry Blogger Award.
