Defining the 21st Century Muse: A #DesignLUX Conversation Celebrating Legends of La Cienega

The Muses.

In a bygone time, the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne were hailed to be the source of knowledge, facets of Greek mythology providing an eternal source of inspiration to those in the practice of literature, science, and the arts.  For millennia, these goddesses have intertwined themselves in amongst the thoughts and fancies of the world’s greatest artists and literary geniuses resulting in catalog upon catalog of inspired works.

As the Earth continues to shrink, far off cultures are no longer strange, and a wealth of information is available at one’s fingerprints, The Muse, the source of one’s inspiration in the production of creative arts, is no longer so definitive. Once upon a time, The Nine Muses were a literal source.  Today, however, it is only their spirit that lingers as the creative community searches for their personal source of genius.

You can’t wait for inspiration. You’ve got to go after it with a club.
— Jack London

#DesignLUX with the La Cienega Design Quarter, to celebrate the festivities of the seventh Legends of La Cienega, will un-earth the tapped and untapped wells of genius, exploring the design community’s ideal of the muse, while defining inspiration for the 21st century.  We’ll examine not just the bigger picture, but the sentiment, nostalgia, and whimsy that are the foundation for creative design.  And, of course, we’ll reflect on the windows to our imagination.

Join us with your own source of inspiration, Thursday, May 7th.  And if you're attending this year's Legends of La Cienega, join #DesignLUX in person!  We'll announce our location Wednesday!
