Nostalgia: D'Scoop Searches for Bing Crosby's Holiday Inn

There is just something about the holiday season that requires one to simply don a pair of woolen pajamas, switch on the twinkle lights, and curl up with a favorite someone to watch classic holiday movies.

Call it a distinct need to be nostalgic.  But to me, it's just as important to getting into the Christmas spirit as say adorning a tree with lights and shiny baubles, as necessary as pulling out the time honored recipes and spending all day in the kitchen cooking for family, as much a requirement as sending notes of well wishes to friends and loved ones.

This past weekend, to celebrate having finished all of our Christmas shopping, the Other and I did just that, a classic movie marathon beginning with A Christmas Story, singing right through White Christmas before ending with Both Bing AND Fred in the 1942 classic Holiday Inn.

Me being me, of course, I couldn't help but focus my attentions on the primary set - a white Connecticut Inn with wondrous amounts of Federal inspired Neoclassical details.  Here in Southern California, those 13-Colonies inspired architectural features are few and far between - our original settlers preferred the architectural detailing of the Spaniards.  But our friends to the east - even the simplest of country farmhouses is adorned with its share of formality, usually by way of an oversize, elegant mantlepiece.

To dream...

So for my California friends with east Coast aspirations (just don't channel Chevy Chase in Funny Farm) I bring you a collection of country houses on the open market which would be perfect for reenacting your own Fred + Bing controversy.
