The One & Only Time Ants Won't Ruin Your Picnic - Evelyn Bracklow
Like most other designers I too am a bit of a feign for tableware.
Over the last 15 years or so I've amassed something like 6 full settings including my grandmother's Autumn Leaf and another hand appliqued Austrian set from the 1880's.
I can't help myself. It's a bit like crack (sleepless nights scouring the internet and all!)
So it should come as no surprise that I might have let out a little squeal when I ran across the works of German artist Evelyn Bracklow. Showing at this year's IMM in Cologne, her first collection entitled Chitlins Gloss emblazons vintage porcelain with ultra realistic ant clusters, an embodiment of whimsey and shock value. First glance beckons a second look as the hand painted pests wind their way round handles, rims, and gold detailing.
Her pieces may not be the best for any person with OCD but personally, I'm smitten.
