Unique Spaces: The Fish Camp Tackle Shack by Eric Brown
Collections and hobbies have a habit of taking over if one isn't careful in their curation. But what do you do when a passion is so strong that it becomes the focal point of family vacations and weekend's away? You build it a room of its own.
For a homeowner in Holmes Beach, Florida, designer Eric Brown did just that, incorporating her immense love of fishing and her desire to involve her entire family in her passion into a uniquely designed recreational hub in their newly built home. Dubbed the Fish Camp "Tackle Shack", the whimsical space serves not only as a display space for the homeowner's collection of fishing rods and reels but also as a functional area for bringing in and cleaning the day's catch, a place to design and create lures, and a great area for entertaining friends and family with a cold beer and tall tales after a day spent cruising the Gulf of Mexico
The Tackle Shack is a study in contrasts and complements. A bold blue, evocative of the Gulf's waters just outside the Shack's doors, stands against natural maple cabinetry matching the sandy earth tones of the neighborhood's surrounding beaches and natural vegetation. A vintage inspired Northstar Retro refrigerator plays off the designer's incorporation of modern technology and electronics. A stand-alone island features a zinc countertop with glass inserts showcasing family photos and trinkets plays off the nearby workbench, its functional cubbies, shelves, and drawers serving as a workspace for the creation of lures and the repair of fishing equipment.
It certainly does not get much more unique than this! Who else can claim their fishing poles have their own room?
